Is Beauty Only About Physicality?
Beauty is often defined as the subjective impression of objects which makes those objects aesthetically pleasurable to see. These objects may include sunsets, landscapes, humans and beautiful works of art. Beauty, along with beauty and art, is perhaps the most significant part of aesthetics, another of the major branches of modern philosophy.
In recent years, however, there has been a tendency among some academics to consider “merely aesthetic” as an oxymoron. According to this school of thought, beauty is subjective and thus cannot be objective. This school of thought maintains that beauty is a subjective concept and thus does not have any objective definition.
For some men, beauty is much more than just looking good. To them, beauty is important because it has emotional meanings. And what men consider as beauty differs vastly from what women consider to be beauty. Men’s standards of beauty are often quite different from women’s. Men’s ideas of beauty are usually based on how a woman looks, while women often base their beauty criteria on their attractiveness to other men. us, and no one can ever decide for us what beauty truly is. We each own our own personal beauty, and no matter what men or women think about our beauty, we know that beauty truly is beauty.
