Sports (or athletic sports) is any forms of typically competitive physical activity that, through organised or casual competition, attempt to employ, build, maintain or enhance physical capability and abilities while also providing entertainment for participants, and occasionally, spectators. Today, sports are carried out by a number of different sports teams, professional sports leagues, individual athletes and even school and college teams. The popularity of these sports have grown over the years, and there are now numerous different types of sports activities that people can take part in. There are many different types of sports, including ice hockey, American football, Australian football, rugby, cricket, tennis, basketball, swimming, softball, golf, Australian rules football and even horse racing. A large number of people take part in outdoor activities, such as mountain walking, camping, kayaking, mountain biking, rock climbing, surfing, and mountain running.

One form of modern day outdoor sports is snowboarding, which involves using a snowboard to propel oneself on a course on skis or snowboards. Another popular form of modern day sports is ice hockey, which involves using an ice racket or stick to throw the ball into an area of water that is covered with either salt or snow. Snowboarding involves using an internal combustion engine or motorcycle to drive a snowboard, ski or surfboard across the surface of a lake, river or the snow similar to a snow plow. Beach volleyball involves using an inflatable basketball or netball. Ice climbing involves climbing on an indoor wall or artificial rock formation on skis or snowboards.

There are many different sports names in the English speaking world, with some examples of popular English sports names include soccer (occasionally spelt as “fuss” or “fussball”), ice hockey, golf, cricket and horse racing. In the United States, American football is commonly called either “College” or “American football” while cricket is known as either “Cricket” or “Cricket League.” Tennis is another English sport name with “Tennis” being the most common spelling while” Wimbledon” is known as Tennis in the United Kingdom.
