A Quick Review of Video and Computer Games

Games, to put it simply, are non-strictly of one type. There are a variety of different kinds of games, which tend to be grouped by their various characteristics or underlying goals not by the kind of gameplay they consist of. Many games may also fall into multiple genres, and thus, can have multiple subgenres! However, you can certainly narrow down your search quite effectively if you know what kind of games you are looking for. Knowing what kind of genre you want to search for can help you find the best games faster.

For example, some of the most popular games involve puzzle-solving, while others involve strategic thinking, and others still involve pure chance (the “lottery”). The real action in such games as Monopoly, Clue, etc., involves the player taking action against an opponent who is attempting to gain control over the game. Some real life board games also involve more than two players, sometimes including an element of dice, but this is not the focus of the game itself. In real life board games, a simple two-person game usually involves bidding or counters, where the objective is to be the first player to get to a certain destination on the board, without hitting any other players. These games involving real strategy and tactics are more complex than simple fun action games, as they teach players valuable skills like how to manage their money and how to properly behave in situations outside of the game.

As you probably can imagine, card games also fall into a subgenre of board games. They involve playing with individual cards, rather than using resources like property and people in the same way. Most card games involve some kind of strategy or decision making involved, as well as some degree of luck. One of the earliest forms of card games was the game of Solitaire, which is now available in computer software programs. In addition to being a fun way to entertain guests at family gatherings, Solitaire also teaches basic mathematics skills and memorization, as well as helping players develop a variety of important thinking skills.
